The Yellowhead Agricultural Society is honored to announce that we have been awarded funding under the Canadian Red Cross Wildfire 2023 Community Recovery and Resiliency Grant. This grant is to assess the impacts to our community during the 2023 Wildfire and to build a program that will lessen and ease the impact to our residents in future emergencies.
The purpose of this project is to forge a partnership with other agricultural societies, local community groups, municipalities and our rural and urban residents within our community. As an Agricultural Society, our mandate is to improve the quality of life for our community residents through education, recreation and an agricultural support network. We provide a safe, localized facility that is able to offer assistance to rural and urban residents in the case of a natural disaster. We have indoor and outdoor facilities that can take in multiple pets or livestock and their owners. By using available skillsets, social media and community networks, we would like to provide a seamless and stress-free venue for residents to reach out to when support is needed.
The foreseeable and planned impact for this project is to foster a co-cohesive partnership with community support groups, local government, emergency services, and communication with the community residents, so as to have a solid support group, location and contact for our community when a sudden and emergent disaster is imminent. The guaranteed impact of this program is our community would be Proactive rather than Reactive, and have a venue to provide immediate support during an emergency.
In order to get the most out of this project, we would like to hear from our community as to what their needs and challenges were in regards to movement, placement and care for their pets and/or livestock, as well as to identify any challenges in the agricultural and rural sector.
We would welcome your input by taking 1 minute to complete our survey regarding your personal experience during the 2023 Forest Fires in the Edson & Yellowhead County communities.
